I don’t think the three younger girls would remember “The Studio and Record Shop.” But I know the rest of us sure do because like myself and the “Older Ones” I think we all had our turns working there.
I started working for Daddy when I was 13 at my insistence of doing so. But that’s not exactly what this blog is going to be about. Not our work any way. But I remember Daddy working on color pictures. This was a time before color film. So how did he do color pictures. Daddy would sit down and actually color pictures by hand. Using what I believe to be oils like a painter/artist would use. He would take cotton balls and Q-tips and actually hand painted his pictures. He was amazing. I have asked many other photographers about this and I have not ever found or heard of any one else who ever did this but our Daddy. When ever I would walk into some ones home I would always look at their pictures that were displayed and I could always and I mean 100% of the time be able to tell if it was Daddys work or not. His hand painted pictures was flawless. This is one of the most fascinating things I think he did in his life. He was very artistic in many ways but this was to me by far his most professional artistic achievement. I just can’t find enough words or right words to express how good he really was. He did this some times for hours and hours none stop. I’ll never forget how good I felt about him when I watched him do this. This made him that much more amazing to me. He defiantly was truly one of a kind.
I don’t think I have one picture that Daddy colored this was. Do any of you ???
OK, lets here what ya’ll know about this.

Peter

OH MY GOODNESS, I TOTAL REMEMBER HIS COLORED PICTURES. WHEN YOU WALKED INTO THE STUDIO, THE ONE THAT WAS ON THE BAYOU SIDE ACROSS THE STREET FROM CHOUEST'S DRUG STORE, THERE WAS JUST ONE BIG ROOM WITH THE PICTURE PICK UP ON THE RIGHT AND THE RECORD SHOP ON THE LEFT. THERE WAS TWO ROOMS ON THE RIGHT, THE BACK ROOM WHAS HIS DEVELOPING ROOM WHERE HE WOULD DEVELOP HIS OWN PICTURE AND CUSTOMER'S PERSONAL FILMS IN THAT ROOM. I REMEMBER IT HAD TO BE DARK ALL THE TIME. THEN THE SMALL ROOM WAS HIS COLORING ROOM WHERE HE HAD ALL HIS TUBES OF ALL KINDS OF COLOR PAINTS AND THAT BLACK TABLE WHERE HE WOULD SIT TO DO HIS MAGICAL WORK. IF YOU WOULD GO ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT WAS THE BIG ROOM WHERE HE TOOK HIS PICTURES. HEY, PETE, DO YOU REMEMBER HOW HE KNEW WHAT COLORS TO USE WHEN HE WAS COLORING PICTURES. WHEN I WAS THERE I USE TO WRITE DOWN THE COLORS FOR HIM WHEN HE TOOK HIS PICTURES. I'M SURE HELP BEFORE ME DID THE SAME. I REMEMBER WHEN HE HAD TO CLOSE THAT STUDIO AND I BELIEVE IT WAS YOU AND SOME OF YOUR FRIENDS THAT CAME TO HELP OR WAS IT LARRY? DAD WAS SO SAD AND HE WAS VERY WORRIED ABOUT HOW HE WOULD CONTINUE TO RAISE SUCH A LARGE FAMILY. WELL, RANDOLPH CAME INTO THE PICTURE AND GAVE MOM A JOB AND I REMEMBER MOM ALWAYS BRINGING FOOD HOME FROM WORK. I KNOW NOW THAT THOSE WERE ROUGH TIMES FOR THE FAMILY BUT I DON'T REMEMBER BACK THEN THINKING THINGS WERE ROUGH.

JUST HAD TO COME BACK WITH ANOTHER LITTLE STORY OF MY OWN ABOUT MOM AND DAD. ANOTHER ONE THAT FEELS LIKE IT HAPPENED YESTERDAY.
ReplyDeleteTHREE WEEKS BEFORE I WAS DUE TO HAVE TIFFANY, LIL AND I FELL OFF THE CEMENT SLAB THEY CALLED A PORCH. I BET LIL REMEMBERS THIS BECAUSE HER LITTLE FACE WAS ALL SCRATCH AND ME BEING SO BIG I TRIED TO NOT LET LIL FALL ON THE CEMENT SO I TRIED TO BREAK HER FALL AND FAILED. OF COURSE, I COULD NOT GET UP AND SOMEONE WENT TO GET RALPH TO COME HELP PUT ME IN THE CAR AND TAKE ME TO THE HOSPITAL. I DON'T REMEMBER SEEING LIL AT THE TIME I THINK MOM TOOK HER IN THE HOUSE SO I WOULDN'T SEE HER. CJ, MOM, AND I WENT TO ST ANNE'S HOSPITAL BY THE TIME WE GOT THERE MY FOOT WAS SWOLLEN TWICE IT'S SIZE. THEY COULD NOT TAKE XRAYS BECAUSE I WAS SO FAR ALONE WITH MY PRAGENCY SO THEY WRAPED MY FOOT AND TOLD ME TO STAY OFF OF IT. DR PHILIP CHECKED THE BABY AND HE THOUGHT EVERYTHING LOOKED OK BUT TOLD US NOT TO BE SURPRISED IF THIS BABY CAME BEFORE THE WEEK WAS UP. WELL, HE WAS RIGHT THE NEXT NIGHT MY WATER BROKE AND OFF TO ST ANNE'S AGAIN. TIFFANY WAS BORN AND ALL SEEMED WELL UNTIL WE TOOK HER HOME. THE FIRST DAY SHE WAS HOME SHE DID NOT WANT TO EAT. NOTHING, NO MILK, NO WATER, NOTHING ALL DAY. NO BOWEL MOVEMENT AT ALL. MOM, BLESS HER HEART, SAID OH THAT SHE WAS A NEW BORN, CAME A FEW WEEKS EARLY, AND DIDN'T EAT MUCH SO SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO POOP. I BEING IN BED JUST GIVEN BIRTH WITH MY FOOT STILL KILLING ME JUST LISTEN TO MOM. WELL, I WILL NEVER FORGET, I KNOW IT WAS VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING, MOM CAME TO CHECK ON TIFFANY AND FOUND THAT SHE WAS WARM AND SHE COULDN'T WAKE HER UP. MOM TOOK HER TEMPERATURE AND I DON'T REMEMBER HOW HIGH IT WAS BUT MOM GOT ON THE PHONE AND CALLED THE HOSPITAL AND THEY SAID TO BRING HER IN THAT DR PHILLIP WAS ON CALL AND HE WOULD MEET US THERE. WELL, I GOT UP TO GO AND DAD TOLD ME THAT I COULDN'T GO THAT MOM AND CJ WOULD BRING HER AND THEY WOULD CALL WHEN THEY KNEW ANYTHING. BOY, I REMEMBER BEING VERY ANGRY AT ALL THREE OF THEM BUT DEEP DOWN I KNOW I COULD NOT WALK ON MY FOOT AND I WAS STILL HURTING FROM THE DELIVERY. I BIT MY TOUNG, KISSED MY BABY GIRL, AND TOLD MY HUSBAND AND MOM NOT TO MAKE ME WAIT THAT THEY WERE TO CALL EVEN IF THEY WERE COMING HOME.
CJ AND I MADE A BEDROOM OUT OF THE ROUSSE'S DINNING ROOM AND THAT IS WHERE WE STAYED. DAD NEVER LEFT MY ROOM. HE PULLED A CHAIR NEXT TO MY BED AND HE STAYED BY MY SIDE ALL THE TIME. HE KEPT TELLING ME THAT SHE WOULD BE ALRIGHT. WHAT FELT LIKE HOURS FINALLY THE CALL CAME. I ANSWERED THE PHONE AND IT WAS MOM. I ASKED HER HOW TIFFANY WAS AND IS SHE ALRIGHT BUT ALL MOM WANTED TO DO WAS TALK TO DAD. ALL I HEARD OF THEIR CONVERSATION WAS WE WILL BE THERE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND THAT WE WERE LEAVING NOW. DAD WAS THE ONE WHO HAD TO TELL ME THAT THEY WERE DOIN EMERGENCY EXPLOROTORY SURGERY ON MY 24 HOUR BABY GIRL. I DON'T REMEMBER THE RIDE TO RACELAND BUT IT FELT LIKE WE FLEW INSTEAD OF DRIVE. WHEN WE GOT THERE I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T WAIT ANY LONGER THAT THEY HAD JUST TAKEN HER INTO SURGERY. I BEGGED THE NURSE, I WISH I COULD REMEMBER HER NAME, TO GO SEE IF I COULD JUST SEE HER FOR A MINUTE. SHE WENT AND CAME OUT WITH TIFFANY. SHE HAD THREE OR FOUR IV'S ATTACHED TO HER HEAD AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY GOOD VEINS IN HER ARM OR FEET. I HAD MY MOMENT AND I MEAN JUST A MOMENT I WITH MY BEAUTIFUL BABY GIRL AND I REMEMBER HOLDING HER TO ME AND TELLING HER I LOVED HER AND IF THINGS DIDN'T WORK OUT TO PLEASE SAVE A PLACE NEXT TO HER FOR ME THAT I WAS GOING WITH HER. PLEASE DON'T ASK WHAT I MENT BY THAT BECAUSE I REALLY DON'T KNOW. WELL, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT TIFFANY WAS BORN WITH A WHOLE THE SIZE OF A QUARTER IN THE INTESTINES. ALL HER INSIDES HAD TO BE TAKEN OUT AND CLEANED AND HER INSIDES HAD TO BE CLEANED ALSO BECAUSE ALL THE SEAPAGE WENT ALL OVER HER BODY. MOM STAYED WITH TIFFANY FOR SIX WEEKS IN THE HOSPITAL. CJ AND I WOULD GO EVERY AFTERNOON AFTER HE GOT OFF OF WORK TO SEE HER. I KNEW I COULD NOT TAKE CARE OF HER WITH EVERYTHING I HAD GOING ON WITH ME. I THANK GOD FOR MOM AND DAD THRU THIS CRISIS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE WOULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT THEM. THANK GOD TIFFANY MADE IT OK, THANK GOD THAT LIL'S FACE DIDN'T STAY SCARED, AND THANK GOD I WAS ABLE TO FINALLY TAKE CARE OF MY BABY GIRL MYSELF WHEN SHE CAME HOME.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU MOM AND DAD, I LOVE BOTH OF YOU!
RONNIE
I remember much of what you wrote, Nannie, as far as the incident with you and Lil, Tiffany being born and needing surgery. Of course, like everything else during that time, it's really cloudy and I don't recall the detail you do, but I remember the incident.
ReplyDeleteI mostly remember when Dad had all of the glass cases and whatnot, moved from the studio to the car port. I believe it was Peter, who lifted me and put me sitting on top of a glass showcase and Daddy had a fit!!! He ordered Peter to take me down and as he did, my ankle got scraped by a nail that was sticking up. I didn't have to go to the doctor or anything but boy, Peter surely got his butt chewed. I think that I must have cried, I can't remember, but I do still have the scar and when I think about it, like now, I think about Dad and Peter. The two of them surely did have a special bonding, I guess mostly he being the baby boy...I don't know, but it was special..
Peter, I do have one of Dad's original pictures that he painted. It is the one that he took of himself, where he is standing behind the camera and in the lens there is a reflection of a high school graduate girl, however, I don't know who the girl is. I will try to remember to bring it to work tomorrow to scan and I'll email it to y'all. I keep that picture in my dining room and will brag about it every opportunity that I get. When someone tells me, "Oh, yea, Freddie Collins, he took my wedding pictures" or "my communion pictures", I always make sure to tell them about his color and artistic talents. I know that's where Lil got her love for creation and I remember how proud Dad was when she took art classes from Godlyn Serigny. As much as he would fuss and complain when he had to bring us places, he was always happy to bring Lil to art lessons.
Although I did not "live" through those days to enjoy Dad's talent, I have heard stories and I thank you and Nannie for these that you've shared.
Let me recall y'all's memory to something else that Dad did which was just extraordinary. I never saw the items which he built from match sticks, but I have seen the pictures...the Eiffel Tower, a Ferris Wheel...I was so amazed by those pictures that Rosie and I were on a mission to build something ourselves. We burned so many matches that I think some of our brain cells were damaged from the sulphur...hehehe.
Okay, so now we know what happened to Rosie, maybe through one of these blogs, we'll find out what happened to me!!! Love ya, Sista, Rosie!!
Needless to say, we never did successfully build anything, but she and I gave it hell..didn't we Rosie??
Well, I'm off to visit LilBit. I'm running late on my blogging today...lots of work going on in my world, but that makes me happy and happy I am. I'm lucky, too, to have such a great family.
Love y'all,
C
oh I remember the room daddy set up for Ronnie and Tiffy, I remember looking over the crib to see the baby and I remember the story of falling off the porch but not the incident,
ReplyDeleteI know Veronica is convinced my face was not scarred by the incident but if you speak to Peter, I'm sure he would beg to differ...
Tiffy will be happy to hear the words ya'll shared privately when you weren't sure she would make it or not.
I can only imagine what that was like and Knowing what i know about intestinal ruptures, we are also blessed with Tiffy's miracle because she, too should not be here...
but here we are just to add caos to ya'll lives!!!!
Yes, I do believe my artistic talents are all from daddy and I think I was blessed with all of them (just joking, well not really...)
funny how daddy was to show his feelings like sitting at your bedside...
he did the same to me.
once when i was a teen, mom was in donaldsonville, i think when minnie was born and i had a virus, kept throwing up.
he climbed those steps and sat with me, wiped my mouth, fixed me 7_up....
oh i loved that man!!!!
HEY C I HAVE TO TELL YOU A LITTLE STORY ABOUT THE MATCH STICK FERRIS WHEEL THAT REALLY WORKED.
ReplyDelete(HOPE YOU'LL(SORRY MIKIE)DON'T MIND ALL THESE STORIES I REMEMBER SO VIVIDLY:
I GUESS I WAS ABOUT 9 YEARS OLD AND DAD HAD A BAR ROOM ON THE BAYOU SIDE RIGHT ACROSS FROM RANDOLPH'S. I GUESS IT WAS SOMEWHERE AROUND 1955-56 AND I WAS SITTING PLAYING A SLOT MACHINE DAD HAD IN THE BAR. I TRIED TO BE IN THE BAR AROUND 7:00 AT NIGHT BECAUSE THAT WHEN ALL THE BIG MONEY PEOPLE WOULD GO IN THE "BACK ROOM" TO PLAY CARDS. BUT BEFORE THEY WOULD CLOSE THE DOOR I HAD ALL KINDS OF DOLLARS TO PLAY THE "ONE ARM BANDIT" AS THEY WERE CALLED. DAD'S FERRIS WHEEL WAS TURNING AND DAD HAD IT RIGHT IN FRONT OF THIS BIG BEAUTIFUL MIRROW. IF I'M NOT MISTAKED IT WAS EITHER MR. LESTER PLAISANCE OR MR. NOLTY THERIOT THAT OFFERED DAD $1,000.00 FOR THAT WHEEL. MAN I JUMPED OFF MY STOOL AND RAN TO DAD AND TOLD HIM TO SELL THAT WHEEL. THAT WAS SOME BID MONEY IN THOSE DAYS BUT DAD REFUSED AND TOLD ME HE WANTED TO KEEP IT. MAN I WAS BUMMED SO I WENT BACK TO PLAYING THE SLOT. TO FINISH, C, DO YOU REMEMBER WHILE WE WERE WORKING FOR NOLTY THERIOT TODD CHERAMIE WAS LIVING IN WHAT IS CELENA'S TODAY AND HE HAD OUR CHRISTMAS PARTY ONE YEAR. I WALKED INTO THAT PLACE AND ON THE WALL WAS THE BEAUTIFUL MIRROW THAT WAS IN THE BAR. I ASKED TODD ABOUT IT AND HE TOLD ME HIS DAD WON IT IN A CARD GAME AT THE BAR. C DO YOU REMEMBER THAT? I TOLD TODD IF HE EVER WAS TO GET RID OF THAT MIRROW MAKE SURE HE CALLED ME FIRST SO NOT EVERYTIME I SEE HIM (WHICH IS MUCH SINCE I LEFT OTI) I ASK IF HE WAS READY TO SELL THE MIRROW AND NO IS ALWAYS THE ANSWER. GUESS I'LL HAVE TO BREAK INTO HIS HOUSE AND STEAL IT! ANYONE WITH ME????? I WANT THAT MIRROW!!! AND PETER NOW I'M SCREAMING!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, Nannie, I do remember the mirror at Boogies, but I didn't realize it was the one that Dad had in the Bar. I speak to Todd pretty often and I think that I may have his email. I will most definitely contact him to see if he still has the mirror..maybe he might be ready to sell it, if he even still has it.
ReplyDeleteBut about the match stick things, didn't whoever buy the bar, after Dad, throw them in the Bayou??? I remember Mom saying something like that when I asked about where they were.
I wish he had sold the pieces because I'm sure that they's still be in existence now. I'm amazed though that Mom and Dad didn't take those things with them when they left...that's crazy, huh???
Well, thanks for that Nannie!!
I want to wish all of the men a very HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!
Love you all,
C
P.S. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE TEDI THIS AFTERNOON AT HER 'SHOW OFF'!!!
I think that is the story I heard also about the matchstick affair.
ReplyDeletethat that crazy person threw them in the bayou!!!
What do you think that was about?
Like why would they throw them in the bayou if they didn't want them why didn't they ask daddy if he wanted them?
Wow, Ronnie I never knew you used to hang out in the bar...
and they had a slot machine?
that explains your love for Casino's,huh?
Todays days mom and dad would have been arrested for letting you gamble like that!
oh, i wish i'd have been there when ya'll were young to know more about these stories.
keep filling in the blanks, siblings.
oh.. and ronnie not meaning to offend but
mirror is not spelled mirrow.... just saying.... lol
c thanks for the picture!!!!
will be printing, well heading to eat lunch with mom at the manor
(all that bingo she wins, i could eat for free all summer with all the guest tickets she has)
then going to Nannie's then to cheer Tedi on,
then ABBY coming spend the weekend at my house woo-hoo!!!!!!
WOW, I have so much to blog on this subject. It’s going to take me awhile. So please be patient.
ReplyDeleteRonnie you are right on the money on what “The Studio” looked like. I remember it the same way. The last room to the right was his “Dark Room.” And you’re right that’s where he would develop customers personal film. That’s also where he would do all his enlargements. He taught me how to develop film and I did that for him while I worked there. In the first room on the right where he would color his pictures there was a large round looking device which was his dryer for drying pictures that had been developed. You would put the pictures on a mat and they would go around that large drum and come out dry on the other end. Do you remember that ?? I also remember writing down colors of customers so he would know what colors to use. Like eyes, hair, clothing, etc.
I also remember he had a phonograph to play records for the customers before they would buy them. Many times I got in a lot of trouble because after school a few of OUR friends would come into the record shop and we would play records when Daddy wasn’t there. But he knew. He would call me on the phone and tell me “Get those bums out of my shop." Man he would get mad. Of course he could see because the house was right across the street from the shop. So we came up with a plan. We would always keep 1 dollar on the counter (all the 45 records sold for 1 doller) so if he came in or called I would say they were buying some thing. And I would ring it up on the cash register and they would walk out with the record in their hand to show that indeed they had bought a record. Then later they would bring it back and I would make a correction on the register. But I think he knew what we were doing any way. He wasn’t stupid. Boy did I get into trouble over this a lot.
I’ll blog this and get back to it in a little while.
LUA,
Peter
I have to blog this now before I forget to. “The picture” that Celena E-mailed to me with Daddy behind his camera and the face of a graduate in his camera lens, I’m almost 100% sure that the girl in is lens is none other than his sister, Aunt Jeanette. Look at the picture real good and you will probably recognize her. Remember I said ALMOST 100% sure. If you take that picture to Aunt Jeanettes house and she can probably confirm this. I’m excited about this and can’t wait to see if it’s really her. I feel a very strong possibility about this. Let me know if ya’ll confirm this.
ReplyDeleteI’ll back in a little bit to blog some more.
LUA,
Peter
Yes it was I and some of both of our friends who helped clear the shop and moved every thing to the house. However Larry and some of his friends also helped. It wasn’t done all at one time and a lot of people pitched in to help.
ReplyDeleteRandolph did come to our family’s aid by not only giving Momma a job but also he would buy fish from Daddy. Does any one remember Daddy catching fish, cleaning and packaging them in jip lock bags for the restaurant? He did that for quite some time.
Daddy was very sad when he closed his business and it’s only lately that I can sympathize with this situation. I felt the same way when I had to close my daiquiri drive thru shop. I still miss it very much. But that’s another blog.
Here is some thing ya’ll may not know before Daddy closed his business. I was 17 years old, in between my junior and senior year of high school. I had been working in the shop for about 4 years and could do every thing except take pictures with his big camera. Daddy and I had a conversation about me keeping the business open. We were very close then. We did have a special bounding with each other. He said he did not want me to quit school. But I told him I would not quit school that I would work the business after school and all day on Saturdays. I believed then that the community would support the business just because of his reputation. I begged him almost but he told me this: The VA. Gave him two choices. One: If he closed his business they would give him a service connected disability and support him as best they could. Or Two: If he kept his business open they would wash their hands of him and he would never be able to get a service connected disability again. They based this on the fact that he was damaging himself more and more by always being on his feet at the business and he was causing more problems for himself. And Ronnie as you said he was worried about supporting his large family. He still had 3 young children to support. So that’s why he finally made the decision to close down the business for good. It was a hard decision but he did what he thought was best for the family at that time. And now I believe it was the right thing to do at the time.
I’ll try to blog some more in a minute. I have to go and cook supper for you know who. My darling angel, Cheryl.
LUA,
Peter
Now, on the subject that I referee to as “Daddys match stick art.” I was always told by Daddy that the Ferris wheel that actually turned was destroyed by a cat that jumped on it and tore it apart when no one was around. The Eiffel tower, I really don’t know what happened to it. But this is the first time I here of any of it being thrown into the bayou. But I really don’t know for sure. H e also did the Auditorium, which is the front building, of G.M. High. Then there was a few building he did which resembled possibly old school houses, old churches and some that just looked like old cabins. I remember this because I used to play with them when I was a kid. I remember the windows were done with a clear plastic film, which had turned a yellowiest brown color, of some sort. I used to poke my fingers thru those windows to see what might be inside. They eventually got destroyed.
ReplyDeleteDo you know how he did the smaller buildings ?? He would cut out his design for a wall out of paper then glue the matches to the paper. He would then stand up the 4 walls and glue them together. Then he would do the roofs in the same manner. He was smart our Daddy.
Well that’s it for now I’ll be back later with some more. Hope ya’ll are not getting bored with all this.
Later,
LUA,
Peter
HEY GUYS! CAN'T STAY TOO LONG WE ARE GOING EAT SUPPER IN HOUMA BUT I HAD TO LET YOU'LL KNOW ESPECIALLY PETE, THE PICTURE IN THE LENS OF DAD'S CAMERA WAS NOT JEANETTE. I DON'T KNOW HER NAME BUT SHE WAS A SENIOR THAT CAME TAKE YEAR BOOK PICTURES ONE AFTERNOON AND DAD ASK HER IF HE COULD USE HER PICTURE AND SHE SAID YES. ALSO, I DON'T BELIEVE JEANETTE EVER GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL. I COULD BE WRONG ABOUT THAT BUT I DON'T BELIEVE SHE DID. SHE WAS ALWAYS A SITTER TO EVA THERIOT SHANER. HAVE TO GO GUY WILL BLOG LATER!

Like Ronnie, I also remember “The Bar.” It was on the bayou side across the street from Randolph’s Restaurant. I remember going in there and Daddy would give me coins to play the old type slot machines while the men would play poker. When I would run out of coins and one of the men would win a hand at poker they would pass more coins my way. I also remember playing the same slot machines when the bar closed in our old garage before we had a car port. You remember that Ronnie ?? At one point some one busted open the slot machines, I think there was three of them, to get the coins out. Eventually they just disappeared in my mind. I don’t know what ever happened to them but I sure wish I had one today.
ReplyDeleteThe old garage to me always was kind of a spooky place where I liked to play. It’s the same garage I set on fire if you remember that ?? But the garage fire, well that’s another blog for another time.
Larry used that same garage for him to raise chickens for 4-H. Well he and Daddy raised the chickens together. But Larry got the credit for 4-H. I also remember when and how the chickens were slaughtered. Daddy would ring their necks and throw them on the ground and we would watch them thrashed around till they died. I don’t know what happened to them after because there was so many of them. I don’t think we had freezer space for them all. Maybe they also went to the restaurant ??
I’m not sure what mirror ya’ll are refereeing to. But Ronnie could that be the same one that hung in “The Studio??” Do you remember that one?? It hung in the room to the left where Daddy took his pictures. In fact that mirror was part of many of his pictures where he would actually take the picture with the person’s reflection from the mirror in the picture. I used that same idea to take many pictures myself. Does any one know about this mirror and where it might be today?? That also was a really nice mirror and that also I wish I had today.
Well that’s it for now. I will try to blog some later today but I have to get some work done around the house today.
Lilly sorry I have not had to much time to blog on your site but I have been too busy on these. I’ll try to get there hopefully tonight some time.
Later,
LUA,
Peter
NOW THAT YOU JARED MY MEMORY, PETE, I REMEMBER THE MIRROR IN THE STUDIO BUT I DON'T THINK IT WAS THE SAME MIRROR THAT HUNG IN THE BAR. I'M SAYING THIS BECAUSE OF MY CONVERSATION WITH TODD CHERAMIE AND HE TOLD ME BE HAD THE MIRROR BECAUSE RANDOLPH WON IT IN A POKER GAME AT THE BAR. I BELIEVE THE MIRROR IN THE STUDIO WAS JUST A PLAIN MIRROR BUT THE ONE IN THE BAR WAS A BEAUTIFUL FRAMED MIRROR WITH BEAUTIFUL CARVINGS AROUND IT.
ReplyDeleteBOY DO I REMEMBER THAT GARAGE! IT WAS A FUN PLACE FULL OF PAPERS AND MAGAZINES. ONE THING I REMEMBER IS THAT RANDOLPH, CECILE, AND RACHEL USE TO LIVE IN THE LITTLE BLUE HOUSE. RACHEL'S BEDROOM WINDOW WAS FACING OUR HOUSE AND SHE COULD NOT COME OUT OF HER HOUSE UNTIL AFTERNOON WHEN HER MOM AND DAD WOULD COME TO REST AFTER A LONG MORNING AT THE RESTAURANT. WELL IN THE MORNING RACHEL WOULD COME TO HER WINDOW AND I WOULD PRETEND I WAS A PHOTOGRAPHER AND SHE WAS MY CUSTOMER. I WOULD INTERVIEW HER AND SHE WOULD TELL ME WHAT KIND OF PICTURE SHE WANTED ME TO TAKE. I TOOK HER PICTURE THEN I WOULD EXCUST MYSELT GO INTO THE GARAGE AND START LOOKING THRU ALL THE MAGAZINES AND FIND A PICTURES THAT BEST SUITED WHAT SHE ASKED FOR. I WOULD CUT OUT THE PICTURES AND SCOTCH TAPE THEM ON I CAN'T REMEMBER IF IT WAS A POSTER OR A BOARD BUT I WOULD PUT THEM ON THAT AND BRING IT OUT FOR RACHEL TO SELECT HER PICTURE. THAT WAS REALLY FUN. I OFTEN THINK ABOUT RACHEL AND THE FUN WE HAD WITH MICHAEL CALLAIS (MS NEVA'S SON). BUT WHEN WE GOT TO HIGH SCHOOL WE MADE OTHER FRIENDS AND RACHEL AND I WERE IN A DIFFERENT CIRCLE. BUT I HAVE TO SAY SOMETHING ELSE THAT I WILL KEEP IN A SMALL SECTION OF MY HEART. WE WHEN CAME HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL WITH TIF AFTER HER SURGERY RACHEL WAS THE FIRST TO COME VISIT. WE WERE NOT SUPPOSE TO HANDLE TIFFANY SO MUCH BECAUSE SHE WAS CUT FROM IT SEEMS LIKE FROM HER NECK TO HER BELLY BUTTON BUT RACHEL ASK IF SHE COULD HOLD HER AND I LET HER. SEEMS LIKE AT 20 YEARS OLD WE WERE BACK AS BEST FRIENDS PLAYING WITH OUR BABY DOLLS BEING TIFFANY. RACHEL ROCKED HER FOR A LONG TIME AND WE JUST SAT AND TALKED OLD TIMES.

gee, it's like a different life...
ReplyDeleteI believe I was three when daddy closed the photography shop
and I had heard from many that daddy became very bitter about
photography after he closed.
Said he would never take another picture and I don't think he ever did.
Probably why there are hardly any pictures of C and I
I remember some of daddy's equipment being in the laundry room...
that must be after Peter burned down the garage?????
I remember the beautiful gold cash register that we used to play with all the time....
wonder what happened to the cash register....
Guess we have Daddy and his hard decision to thank for why our momma lives happily and comfortably at the manor, if she did not have her va check she could not afford to live there
not to mention all the medications they send her for free...
Thank God daddy made that decision even if he was never the same again....
I am glad he was able to stay home with me when I was a little girl...
Yes, lots of memories read this morning. Nannie, I think it's so cool about how you and Rachel played "Photo Shop" as young girls...how cool was that????
ReplyDeleteBingo tonight!!!
Love,
C
These are some great and interesting memories! Aunt Ronnie, I am sorry about Rachel passing away.
